Mohammad Rubel produced a brilliant bowling performance as Bangladesh High Performance (HP) team defeated Northern Territory by four wickets in the Top End T20 competition in Darwin.
Mohammad Rubel was the main star with the ball. The spinner took five wickets for 21 runs in his four overs and played a major role in restricting Northern Territory to 143 for nine from 20 overs.
Bangladesh later chased the target in the 19th over to record another important victory.
Mohammad Rubel Shines With the Ball
Northern Territory won the toss and decided to bat first. Bangladesh had an expensive opening over, with Mrityunjay Chowdhury conceding 13 runs.
The game changed soon after Mohammad Rubel came into the attack.

Mohammad Rubel took his first wicket in his opening over when Harshit Bimbral was stumped while trying to move forward to defend the delivery.
The spinner then struck twice in his next over. He removed Jaga Kaduru and Doutjie Hogenboize, leaving Northern Territory in serious trouble.
Northern Territory lost four wickets for just 35 runs as Bangladesh’s bowlers kept the pressure on the batting side.
Northern Territory Try to Recover
Rakibul Hasan added to Northern Territory’s problems by dismissing Riley Mark in the fifth over.
After the early collapse, Jordan Silk and Matt Hammond started to rebuild the innings. The two batters added 45 runs from 37 balls for the fifth wicket.
Silk scored 31 from 23 balls, hitting three fours before he was dismissed.
Northern Territory again came under pressure after the partnership ended.
Mohammad Rubel returned to the attack and took two more wickets. He dismissed Matt Hammond and Agar with consecutive deliveries.
Hammond scored 26 from 26 balls, including two fours.
Late Runs Help Northern Territory
Northern Territory still managed to add some useful runs in the final part of their innings.
Cadel McMahon and Sam Barker put together a 29-run partnership from 21 balls for the ninth wicket.
McMahon scored 25 from 17 balls, while Barker made 18 from 14 deliveries.
Northern Territory finished their 20 overs with 143 runs for nine wickets.
However, Bangladesh had enough batting strength to chase the target.
Bangladesh Start the Chase
Bangladesh made changes to their team for the match and also used a different opening pair.
Ariful Islam joined Habibur Rahman Sohan at the top of the order.
Ariful made 10 runs from six balls before he was dismissed. Sohan followed in the fifth over after scoring 22 from 18 balls.
Bangladesh were 41 for two at that stage.
Sabbir Rahman Builds the Innings
Sabbir Rahman then took control of the chase.
Having scored half-centuries in Bangladesh’s previous two matches, Sabbir once again made an important contribution.
He shared a 34-run partnership with Shamim Hossain for the third wicket.
Shamim scored 11 from 11 balls before his dismissal.
Sabbir then combined with Irfan Shukkur, and the pair added another 35 runs.
Bangladesh reached 110 when Sabbir was dismissed.
He scored 42 runs from 37 balls, with two fours and one six.
Bangladesh Face Late Pressure
Sabbir’s dismissal was followed by a sudden collapse.
Bangladesh lost four wickets within the next 30 runs, giving Northern Territory a chance to make the chase interesting.
The required runs were still within reach, but Bangladesh needed someone to finish the game calmly.
Samiur Bashar Ratul stepped up at the right moment.
He hit a four and a six in the 18th over, helping Bangladesh move closer to victory.
Bangladesh Complete Four-Wicket Win
Bangladesh eventually reached the target in the second ball of the 19th over.
They finished the chase with six wickets down and secured a four-wicket victory over Northern Territory.
The win was Bangladesh HP’s fifth victory in six matches.
With 10 points from six games, Bangladesh HP strengthened their position at the top of the table and secured their place in the semi-finals.
Mohammad Rubel’s Five-Wicket Haul
The biggest talking point from the match was Mohammad Rubel’s bowling.
He finished with figures of 5/21 from four overs. His wickets came at important stages and repeatedly stopped Northern Territory from building partnerships.
Mohammad Rubel had already taken 15 wickets in his first five matches of the competition. His five-wicket haul against Northern Territory took his total to 20 wickets after six matches.
His continued form has made him one of Bangladesh HP’s most important players in the tournament.
Bangladesh HP Continue Their Winning Run
Bangladesh HP have now won five of their six matches in the Top End T20 competition.
The team has collected 10 points and sits at the top of the standings. Victoria CA are second with eight points.
With the semi-finals secured, Bangladesh will now look to carry their strong form into the knockout stage.
For Mohammad Rubel, the five-wicket haul was another standout performance in what has been an impressive tournament with the ball.
