Five fishermen found dead: in the Bay of Bengal after the fishing trawler FB Barkat sank during rough weather near Barguna’s Patharghata.
The bodies were recovered from the deep sea on Tuesday, August 25, around 22 hours after the accident. The incident has left the local fishing community deeply shocked.
Five Fishermen Found Dead After Trawler Accident
The fishing trawler sank around noon on Monday, August 24, when it was caught in bad weather and powerful waves in the Bay of Bengal.

There were 13 fishermen on the trawler when the accident happened. Eight fishermen managed to survive and were later rescued by another fishing boat.
However, five fishermen remained missing after the trawler went down.
The missing fishermen were identified as Nur Alam, 37, Kawsar, 30, Saikul, 33, Ibrahim, 28, and Bellal, 22. They were residents of different areas of Patharghata Sadar Union.
How Did the Trawler Sink?
According to Yunus Molla, one of the rescued fishermen and the trawler’s cook, the sea was very rough when the accident occurred.
The fishermen were preparing to cast their nets when the weather suddenly became dangerous. Some of them were resting inside the bridge of the trawler.
A strong storm and large waves hit the fishing boat. The trawler then overturned and sank into the sea.
The eight survivors spent nearly two hours in the water before another fishing trawler reached them and rescued them.
Bodies Recovered From the Deep Sea
After receiving news of the accident, the District Fishermen’s Trawler Owners’ Association sent a boat to search for the five missing fishermen.
The search continued in the Bay of Bengal. Finally, the rescuers found the bodies of all five missing fishermen on Tuesday.
Badal Molla, the owner and skipper of FB Barkat, said the bodies were recovered from the deep sea. A fishing trawler carrying the bodies was returning toward the coast.
It was expected to take around three hours to reach Patharghata.
Police Await Bodies for Legal Procedure
Patharghata Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Abdul Alim said he had received information about the recovery of the five fishermen.
However, he said he had not yet seen the bodies at that time. After receiving the news, he went to the Badurtala area.
The bodies are expected to be examined after reaching the coast, and the authorities will take the necessary legal steps.
Fishing Community Shocked by the Accident
The sinking of FB Barkat has caused concern among fishermen and their families in Patharghata.
Fishing boats regularly travel into the Bay of Bengal, where sudden storms and high waves can create dangerous conditions. The latest accident once again shows the risks faced by fishermen while working at sea.
The recovery of the five fishermen brings an end to the search operation, but their families are now facing the painful loss of their loved ones.
