A tragic Dhaka robbery has ended in the death of a 55-year-old primary school head teacher who had travelled from Bogura to the capital for medical treatment.
Ronjina Parvin was on her way to an eye hospital in Khamarbari early Saturday morning when a motorcycle rider allegedly snatched her bag from a moving rickshaw. The sudden pull caused her to fall onto the road, leaving her with a serious head injury.
The incident took place around 6am on Saturday, August 29, on Manik Mia Avenue near the Bakultala Gate No. 12 of the National Parliament complex.
Husband Describes the Tragic Incident | Dhaka robbery
Ronjina’s husband, Abdul Matin, was waiting outside the morgue of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital later that day. He described the final moments of his wife’s life while waiting for her body to be handed over after the post-mortem examination.

According to Matin, the couple had left Bogura by bus on Friday night. They reached Kallyanpur bus terminal early Saturday morning and then took a battery-powered auto-rickshaw to the Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute and Hospital in Khamarbari.
While travelling along Manik Mia Avenue, a motorcycle came close to their vehicle after they passed Parliament’s Bakultala Gate.
Matin said the motorcycle touched their rickshaw twice. He protested, and the driver slowed down.
At that moment, the motorcycle rider reportedly grabbed the bag hanging from Ronjina’s shoulder and pulled it with force.
The rider escaped toward Khamarbari with the bag, while Ronjina was thrown from the rickshaw because of the sudden pull.
She Suffered a Serious Head Injury | Dhaka robbery
Matin said Ronjina fell with the back of her head hitting the road. The rickshaw moved forward, and he immediately asked the driver to stop before running back to his wife.
He found Ronjina lying unconscious and bleeding on the road.
Blood from the back of her head soaked his clothes as he tried to help her. He removed his panjabi and pressed it against the injury in an attempt to stop the bleeding.
Matin then carried his wife back into the rickshaw and rushed her to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.
Doctors examined Ronjina after she arrived at the hospital. However, she was declared dead.
Police Mention Head Injury in Report | Dhaka robbery
A preliminary examination of Ronjina’s body was carried out by Sub-Inspector Zahidul Alam of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.
The report mentioned a severe injury to the back of her head, along with blood marks around her nose and mouth.
Police said the body was handed over to the family after the post-mortem examination. Authorities are investigating the incident.
The family planned to bury Ronjina after the Zuhr prayer on Sunday at their family graveyard.
A Teacher Remembered by Her Community | Dhaka robbery
Ronjina Parvin was from Dari Sonakania village in Gabtali upazila of Bogura. She was the daughter of Moyez Uddin.
She lived in the Rahmannagar area of Bogura city with her husband and their only daughter, Raisa. Raisa is a ninth-grade student.
Abdul Matin runs a clothing business at Bogura New Market.
Ronjina worked as a head teacher at a primary school. Her sudden death has caused deep sadness among her family, colleagues, students, relatives and local residents.
What began as a journey to Dhaka for eye treatment ended in a heartbreaking loss for her family. The incident has also raised fresh concern over the danger of bag snatching on busy city roads.
